Prep is most of the job
On a weathered fence, the wash, scrub and sand take longer than the coating. Skipping that step is why a cheap paint job peels within two summers.
We clean the surface, deal with mould, sand back loose fibres and spot prime bare timber before any product goes on. That is built into the price you see in the calculator, which is why condition is one of the questions we ask.
Paint or stain for your fence
Stain penetrates the timber and shows the grain. It fades rather than peels, so recoating later is a wash and a fresh coat instead of a scrape back. On hardwood and rough sawn palings it is almost always the better option.
Paint gives a solid, uniform colour and covers patchy timber. It needs priming and more prep, and eventually it flakes, but for a front fence you want to match the house colour it is the right call.
Best time of year in Melbourne
