Getting the cables right
The single thing that separates a tidy install from a messy one is the cabling. Two options work. A slim surface duct painted to match the wall is cheap and can go on any wall type. Running the cables inside a cavity wall looks like nothing is there at all, but it only works on a stud wall with a clear cavity.
Power is the catch. You cannot legally run a standard power lead inside a wall. The correct method is either an in wall rated power kit or a new outlet behind the TV installed by a licensed electrician.
Getting the height right
The most common regret is mounting too high. Aim for the centre of the screen at roughly eye level from your usual seat, which is generally 100 to 125cm off the floor for a lounge.
Above a fireplace is popular and often too high, which means looking up for two hours. If the mantel is the only spot, a tilting or full motion bracket helps a lot.
