Installing a new power point typically costs $180 to $450 inc GST depending on where it goes and how far it is from an existing circuit. Adding an outlet next to one that already exists is the cheap end. A weatherproof outdoor outlet on a new run is the expensive end.

Why gate motors need their own power point
The most common reason our customers book a power point is an automatic gate. A swing or sliding gate motor needs a permanent weatherproof outlet within reach of the motor housing, not an extension lead run from the garage.
We do not run that power as part of a gate job. You organise a licensed electrician, and at the gate site check we tell you exactly where the outlet needs to sit so the work only has to be done once.

What a legal install includes
All electrical work in Victoria must be done by a licensed electrician, and any new or altered wiring requires a Certificate of Electrical Safety. That certificate is your proof the work was done to standard, and it matters for insurance.
A compliant install includes correct cable sizing, RCD protection on the circuit, testing of polarity and earth, and safe termination in the switchboard. None of that is DIY territory, and swapping an outlet yourself is illegal in Australia.
